Hello,
After I imported my capture netlist (which has part BSS138) into Allegro. I tried to place BSS138 manually.
The 'import steps for allegro 16' instruction says "just double click the .dra file to open it in allegro". As I found there are two .dra files for this BSS138 : SOT95P240X111-3N.dra and ps_r123_60_d250.dra .. Wonder which one to use and what is the difference ?
Then, when a .dra file opens in an Allegro window, it actually opens in a separate Allegro window instance, not the board file I created for my design. So wonder how does it gets imported into the blank board file I created ? Is the .psm to be used as well ?
Thank you !
Lee

Hello there,
Thanks for reaching out.
Let me answer your questions:
- The correct .dra file would be the one that has the IPC name of the footprint. In this case, SOT95P240X111-3N.dra.
- An Allegro footprint has 3 main files:
.pad: A padstack file.
.dra: A drawing file used to create symbols, such as footprint packages for layout.
.psm: The binary equivalent of the drawing file, and represents the footprint package’s physical shape in layout. It is basically a compiled version created every time you save a .dra file.
- Regarding importing the footprint into the board, please read the following article:
