How do the square pegs (1x3.5mm) fit in the 1mm drill hole?

0

The datasheet shows that the component requires square holes for the legs to fit through that are 1 mm wide and 3.5 mm long. The pad in the footprint is long but the drill hole is still only 1x1 mm. How would the leg fit through the hole?

Hello,

Thanks for your message. When you open the library you’ll see that the pin 1 dimension is 1x3.5 mm on the milling layer, this is the layer used for cutouts on the board.

The drill is only 1mm because that is the diameter that fits the slot, but, when the PCB is fabricated, the real cut is 1x3.5mm due to the milling layer. You can find more information about this method here: https://www.autodesk.com/products/eagle/blog/what-you-didnt-know-about-eagle-slotted-holes/
