The last step of the KiCad installation process (running Tools -> External Plugins... -> SnapEDA) hung for me on the installer screen that says "Installation is starting. Please wait for the installation to complete."
I tracked this down to the use of directupload.net to host resources that the installer was trying to retrieve. That website was blocked by my firm's firewalls due to the types of content also hosted at that site. Unfortunately, it took quite some time to figure out what was going on because the plugin just hangs without giving any indication as to why.
One workaround is to run the installer from another computer located outside the firewall, then copy the resources over to the original computer. On windows, those resources are located at '%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH%SnapEDA Kicad Plugin'.
